Description
An ill-conceived decision made at seventeen led to a lifetime of secrets and lies.
Didsbrook is a remote village rich in history, in an area of natural beauty. It is home to families who have farmed the land for generations, and a vibrant mix of creatives, actors, artists, and writers.
Life in Didsbrook remained undisturbed until 2018, when it hit the national headlines after its best-known resident, former actress turned novelist, sixty-five-year-old JOCELYN ROBERTSHAW, was found dead under mysterious circumstances.
Police concluded death by misadventure due to a lack of forensic evidence; the recently widowed Jocelyn took her own life after shooting a quail that had ingested hemlock. Her friends, particularly her young protégée Lucy Fothergill, disputed this theory, as the animal-loving Jocelyn would never shoot anything, and villagers know not to eat local quail that feed on hemlock in Wayland Wood.
Lucy becomes obsessed with what happened to her mentor. After discovering a hidden stash of Jocelyn’s notebooks, Lucy uncovers jaw-dropping secrets from Jocelyn’s past. The impression Jocelyn gave the world of a near-perfect life was an Academy Award-winning performance.
